Mentoring

Mentoring of a Different Sort:

We want to nurture; we desire to help and serve, but often times we do not know where to begin or how to be of service.  Women are seeking Godly mentors in their lives; mentors that are willing to provide answers and advice throughout the many stages of womanhood. Blessing God’s Way is a ministry that has three branches of womanhood to which we serve: Maidenhood, Maternity, and Menopause. All three branches are in need of wonderful and caring mentorship where relationships are built and enriched. Mentoring in any of these areas of womanhood can provide a calming influence as well as extra nourishment for our souls.

If you would like to become a Mentoring representative for this ministry, we would love to hear from you. I pray you check back often to read how you can become an intricate part of this ministry in a most tangible way. We are excited about what this type of mentoring program can offer to women of all ages.

In the Bible, Hebrews speaks about a “gathering together” to encourage one another; “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds”. This is one major area of the Christian church where we are slacking. It is an area where we as Christians could improve and be set apart unto Him.

The actual scriptures in Titus 2:1-8 mention that older women should admonish the young women to do and be many things; “and so train the young women to love their husbands and children…” This is a formal “call” to older women to seek out and teach and/or disciple the younger generation.

Susan Hunt, from Spiritual Mothering, has said it most beautifully, “We must not allow the world to set the agenda for this decade, and we must not allow those voices to teach women how to be women.” She also states so eloquently, “Christian women must speak with boldness and clarity about womanhood and must live distinctly Christian lives.” Oh, this is so true, don’t you agree? We are to:

  • steer women to see God’s design for them as women
  • encourage women to give thanks and embrace (biblically) their God-given designs as women
  • give women an outlet or “means” to unveil their gifts for being servers and helpers
  • offer particular workshops or times to teach about God’s design for their cycles (time permitting)
  • offer hope and encouragement to women of the next generation so they may obtain His understanding of what their cycles were created to be
  • create awareness that our cycles are not to be feared or dreaded or gotten rid of
  • set an example to the secular world by being Christ-centered, even in our cycles
  • pray for one another, admonish one another and serve one another

How can we steer women to see God’s design for them, or how do we encourage women to educate themselves and give thanks for such intricate designs? How do we create awareness in our own communities for such needs? That is what I would like to introduce to you but first, let us look at the difference between current worldview and Biblical worldview on our cycles as women.

Secular Worldview:

  • Cycles are curses
  • Cycles are bothersome
  • Cycles need fixing or taken away
  • Cycles are gross & private
  • Cycles are physical events only

Biblical Worldview:

  • Cycles are blessings
  • Cycles have a purpose
  • Cycles should be embraced biblically
  • Cycles are private, but part of life
  • Cycles are spiritual times

Here we can see the plight we are really in. It is sad indeed, but there is hope.  We can change the tide by mentoring and teaching the difference in our own communities. Corrie ten Boom once stated, “Every experience that God give us, every person He puts in our lives, is the perfect preparation for the future that only He can see”. This is a beautiful encouragement to us who are in a position to mentor.

Blessing God’s Way Mentoring Program For All 3 Branches of Womanhood:

MAIDENHOOD: This mentoring would include being available for questions and discussions, as well as supporting and teaching women from an early age that our cycles are God-given. We recommend that you begin mentor relationships by teaching one BGW Maidens by His Design course per calendar year. Choose from small group, large group, or one-on-one format. Always include and steer the daughters to their mothers, especially for their first cycle.

MATERNITY: Encourage and instruct women through childbirth education or by teaching Bible studies designed for pregnant women or couples. Also, BGW encourages women serving women in the role of doula or midwife. Personal mentoring relationships can be started by teaching one BGW Maternity by His Design course each year. (This course is still in the making.) Also, encourage and/or host Blessing God’s Way gatherings for the celebration of pregnancy.

MENOPAUSE: Encourage and educate women in the truth of their menopausal season through BGW resources. Relationships can form through teaching or hosting the up-coming BGW Menopause by His Design course. This is also the branch where more women feel capable of being mentors, so introducing this program to them in the way of an information night would be beneficial; continuing the program’s growth and service to the community. Mainly simply being a BGW representative in their community.

Now the real beauty, if that was not enough! The absolute awesome thing about this whole concept and implementation of the Mentoring Program in your community is that is does not have to be a “church” function or through a church entity. I believe it will have to come from passionate mothers who see the need for this type of mentoring relationships to happen. If your church supports Blessing God’s Way mission, then that is so wonderful and we can equip you with the tools needed to begin a church ministry in the way of mentoring. But it doesn’t have to be through a church, per say.

Begin mentoring in your neck of the woods! Stop dreaming about it, stop complaining there isn’t enough women to do it but instead pray about how you can take advantage of the tools out there to begin mentoring women in your community. It is all about faith… pick up your foot – not knowing where it will be set down – but trusting it will be set down ever so gently by our loving Father in heaven above and may He bless the fruit of your labor in doing so.
